We picked up the new boy today from Gainesville (Alachua County Animal Control).
He is a 4 year old brindle boy with natural ears. He is a nice
boy and even knows some obedience. He is underweight with hip bones
showing. We have decided to name him Sam. He is a little shy
right now, but is coming around nicely. He is uncertain regarding the
other dogs. |

sweet baby and loves to play rough. His owners had health problems
and were no longer able to take care of him. |

Finnigan is a 7 month old fawn boy with natural ears. He is a sweet
baby, tender hearted with a soft personality. His owners gave him up
because they were busy with their children and did not have time to take
care of a Dane puppy. |

Malcolm is a 14 month old black boy with natural
ears. His owners did not want him anymore. He has severe demodectic
mange with almost no hair on his body. Was red and raw and skinny when
dropped off. Very, very sweet boy. Happy and loving.

Valentino is a 2 and one-half year old black male. He is LARGE boned.
He has cropped ears which were never taped, resulting in crop failure.
We just picked him up today from Citrus animal control. He has
a broken toe and large hygromas on both elbows. He's a little lean
right now and only weighs 130lbs, which is about 25lbs underweight. He
is very sweet and thinks he only weighs 5 lbs and tries to crawl into your
lap every other second! Valentino is a bit afraid of men right now,
but comes around. |

Kiki is a 10 month old Harlequin girl. She
is outgoing and turbo charged! Gets along well with others. |

Dallas is a 1 and one-half year old black male
with cropped ears. He is very, very, very, tall. He is thin right
now. He is quite the clown and sweet as well. His owners had
six other dogs and couldn't keep him. He gets along with other dogs
and cats. |

Nikki is a one year old blue merle female that was an owner give-up.
They had gotten a divorce and neither had time for the dog. She is nice but
a little hard headed. Gets along well with others. |

Annabelle is a one and one-half year old black female with natural ears.
She has white feet and chest. She was an animal control seizure that was
tied to a tree and not fed. She is spring loaded and loves attention. She
has the speed of a greyhound and the grace of a gazelle! Loves to please. |

Arrrgyle is a fourteen month old mantle boy with
natural ears. He was kept in the back seat of his owners' car for over a
week and a half. Before that he must have been confined to a small crate
since he has advanced arthritis in his spine. He also has bladder stones
and pano in his left femur. He is terribly emaciated. He only weighs 85 lbs.
He cannot walk on his left rear leg. All the muscles in his right rear leg
are atrophied due to confinement. He is extremely sweet and wags his tail
even when he is drinking water. He had thousands of fleas on him when the
owner dropped him off. We sprayed him with flea spray many times and I have
never seen that many fleas on a dog! He will need a lot of rehab and TLC
over the next several months.
May 18, 2010 update: Arrrgyle is doing great and has gained 35 pounds. |

Waldo #27 is a 2 year old mantle male with cropped
ears. He has been burned by cigarettes and they used a pair of pliers
on his love handle. He is only 102 pounds and should be about 170.
They also sawed off all four of his canine teeth so he couldn't bite
them. He is a very sweet boy, but very clingy. |

Artemus is a 10 month old male blue merle with natural ears. He was boarded
at his vet's office by owner and owner never returned for him. He was
then transferred to animal control after 6 weeks of boarding. Does not like
men. Is slow to trust humans. He is very thin. |

Phoebe is a 9 month old black female with natural
ears. Very, very shy, but sweet. Owner gave her up because they
had no time and children didn't like her. |

Angel is a 1-1/2 year old harlequin female with
natural (uncropped) ears. She is scared of men. She was found running
loose in Sebring in the road. She is a very sweet and clingy girl. |

New in July 2007
Darby is a 10 month old female mantle merle with natural ears. She
is very emaciated, only 69 pounds! Bag of bones but quite loving!
Beautiful color and quite exuberant! She came from an Animal
Control seizure in Jacksonville.

Ollie is a 4 year old black male with natural ears. He's the tallest
Dane we have ever seen. On the thin side. Shy. He came
with Lexi. Both of these kids were the product of a divorce.

September 15, 2008:
Stevie is a 2 and one-half year old black male with natural ears. He
was found running loose in Brandon. People report that he had been
running the streets for five days. He was picked up and taken to a
vet in Brandon and then transported to us last night at 10:30 p.m. His
pads are bleeding and right now he can't walk. We had to carry him
into the house and out to potty. He is always wagging his tail.
Update - September 25, 2008
Stevie has been reunited with his parents! He was microchipped and
we had him scanned. He has been successfully placed back home. His
parents were worried sick! We really could use a universal microchip
scanner so that we can check incoming animals immediately. |

June 12, 2008: We just picked up a mother, father and 3 puppies
from Citrus County Animal Control.
The mother, Jenna, is 6 months old, black with natural ears. She is
very emaciated, so skinny that they could not even microchip her. She
was dropped off by the owners with nine puppies. Three had died on
the way to Animal Control of flea anemia. When I arrived, three more had
died because Animal Control had left the puppies with the mom and she had
crushed them. So now we have three two-day old puppies. Two mismarked
blacks and one mantle.

Honey is a 3 year old black female with cropped
ears. She was found running loose on Highway 41 by a policeman. He
stopped traffic and picked her up. He happened to live in our neighborhood
and brought her to us. |

Jessie is a 1-1/2 year old brindle female with
natural ears. She is active and outgoing. She lived with Basia.
Their owner moved. |

Admiral is a fawn male with natural ears, between
2-3 years old. He was an animal control seizure for abuse and neglect. The
owner had 4 other dogs that were all fat and healthy, but this poor dane
belonged to her husband whom she hated. So to get back at her husband, she
confined the dane and purposely tried to starve him to death. As a full grown
adult male, he weighed a whopping 72 pounds. his cheek bones were sticking
out of his face farther than his eyes that were sunken into his skull.
DISGUSTING! He is currently at the animal emergency clinic because of severe
pancreatitis. They did not know if he would even live thru the night due
to the malnutrition. |

New July 2007
Lexi is a 4 year old blue merle female with natural ears. She is the
fattest Great Dane we have ever seen! She came with Ollie.
Both of these kids were the product of a divorce.

Puppy Mill Rescue 6. Sebastian. 150lb 5 year
old black male. Crop flop ears, white chest, white toes, cement sores
on back legs, sweet boy, always wagging.
2/11/08 update: Sebastian underwent emergency bloat surgery in February.
Three vets worked on him for over four hours. Currently his medical bills
are at about $3,000.00, but he is recovering nicely and has a very sweet
and loving disposition. Due to his recovery needs Sebastian is not yet available
for adoption. |

ears. People didn't have time for her. SHE IS GREAT WITH KIDS. They dropped
her off in their SUV with seven children crammed in! Very sweet dog.

Duke is a three year old light brindle male
with cropped ears, initially shy but very affectionate once he gets to know
you. Duke has wonderful house manners, is not much of a barker, and is very
laid back. He get's along with other dogs just fine, but would not find being
an "only dog" at all lonely. If you are looking for a calm and gentle companion
to share your space, Duke is a great candidate"
April 16, 2008 Update from Duke's new family:
Duke has joined our family of two Great Danes, an All American mixed breed,
a Bearded Dragon, a Russian Tortoise, two rabbits, and two pet rats. He fits
in beautifully! He has even become a Certified Animal Assistance Dog with
Paws For Friendship Incorporated, an International Pet Therapy Organization.
We simply adore this wonderful, loving boy and are very grateful to The Tampa
Bay Great Dane Rescue for bring him into our lives! -- Jan |

George and Gracie are three month old puppies
just in. One male, one female. They are both black with white markings.
Both have natural ears. They were found in the road with their sibling
who had already been hit by a car and killed. Very sweet and loving.
Gracie is more outgoing. George is shy but loving. They
were fixed on June 27 and are ready to go! |

male puppy with natural ears. He is wonderful in the house, crate trained,
polite, happy, and good with our other dogs and cats. He is a good eater,
and a good watch dog. He loves to sleep in our bed and rest his head on us. |

ears. She is very sweet and bouncy. She LOVES men--follows Dan
around everywhere! She is afraid of thunder storms, but all she does
is get into the tub until it is over...kind of cute! Very nice girl.
I enjoy her company. Would be best in a home either without other
dogs or with dogs that don't want to play with her. She was raised
as an only dog so she doesn't understand the playing thing yet.

afraid of thunderstorms! |

Waldo is a 9 month old Mantle boy. He has two broken legs; left knee
torn apart, both front legs swollen, skinny. Very very large male. Father
was over 200 lbs. Incredibly sweet boy for what he has been thru. The former
owners "don't know what happened to him."
9/19 Update: Took Waldo in for many x-rays and they discovered that
his pelvis is broken in many places and has been allowed to heal in a bad
position. His left leg is broken right above his knee and of course, right
through his growth plate. His left leg will not grow now and is very
deformed--very very sad. it was questioned if he should be put down. One
look in those huge brown eyes and I can't do it.

knows basic obedience. Must have a fenced yard, because she likes to
run. Owner abandoned her at SPCA. She was very thin (40-50 pounds
underweight), but is putting on some weight now. |

Jesse is a twelve week old blue merle male. He
has cropped ears. He's the one you've seen in the newspapers. He
was badly abused by his previous owners, including a broken leg. At
the time of this writing, we have an appointment with the vet to look at
his leg and decide on treatment.

Toby is a 3-4 year old Merlequin male, Very, very sweet boy. Very sedate
and mellow. He was found running as a stray in Ruskin. Toby was very ill.
He was heartworm positive and severely emaciated. |

decided that they didn't want her anymore. Does not get along with other
dogs. Is a sweet foot warmer. Needs to gain weight. |

Missy is a four and a half year old black female.
Her owner moved and could not take. Left her behind, tied to a tree in her
back yard. Neighbor was supposed to feed her but forgot. Very skinny and
shy. She had just enough rope to dig under the house which is probably the
only thing that saved her from dying from the heat. She is very nervous about
other dogs so she would need to be an only dog. She is sweet but lacking
confidence. She is also very petite. Very small dane in stature and weight. |

Libby was an owner "give up" due to the fact that
the owner was diagnosed with cancer and could no longer care for the dog.
She is a very sweet girl that is just learning how to play and loving it!

shy but is blossoming every day. |

Animal control seizure for neglect. The former owners were not providing
proper nutrition for proper bone growth. They would not get her the eye surgery
she needed, so she was going blind. Very big female, large boned. She's a

but was beaten with a glass bottle of some kind. She had embedded glass removed
from her back, and screams everytime she sees a bottle. |
